About Sue

Sue grew up in South Africa, where she  followed a career in teaching. On moving to Ireland in 2000, she returned to her first love, painting. Her greatest pleasure is to work outdoors when weather permits, observing that when one is directly engaging with the subject, and can smell it, it shows in the painting. As a child she had been affected by the subtlety and luminosity of the watercolour paintings of her aunt, Yvonne Eales, and so finds watercolour  her favourite medium.  Her aim is to capture the essence of a subject while reveling in the magic of the watercolour medium itself, which allows a range from the diffuse and delicate to bold and juicy use of paint.

Sue's Exhibitions

Since living in East Cork, Sue has participated in numerous group exhibitions, and held five  successful solo exhibitions at The Courtyard Gallery in Midleton. Her next solo exhibition here will be in November, 2008. She will also be participating in the Cork Art Fair at City Hall in September.

As a director since 2005 of Courtyard Arts Ltd, which manages the Courtyard Gallery, Sue and her business partner, Anne Ahern, provide both emerging and established artists with a forum to display their art. Their professional service and support to artists both local and from abroad have contributed greatly to the development of art in East Cork.
